A great way to start the year

By | September 18, 2010

What started as a desire to know what technology access my students had turned into a great opportunity to get to know them, and what they thought about grades, learning, and their interests. Here’s a copy of the survey that I gave my students this year on the first day.

Some of the responses to the questions were interesting enough to put in wordle form (click any to enlarge):

Learning is… Chemistry is… A grade of “A” means
Wordle: Learning is... Wordle: Chemistry is... Wordle: Untitled

This is the first time I’ve given a survey of this sort. I’ll make some modifications for next year, but this is a great way to get to know your students.

Overall, the response to the Google Apps/Google Docs in the course has been positive. Now that I know that all of my students have access to computers and internet, and that most have cameras, the opportunities for alternative lab reports and assessments are endless.
